Chemistry Education Public Lecture
Yogyakarta- On Tuesday, 2 April 2019, Chemistry Education held a Public Lecture at the SAINTEK Theatrical Room (Science and Technology) with the theme “Application of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematic)-Based Research in Facing the Industrial Revolution 4.0 Era” with speakers Dr.Pujianto, S.Pd., M.Pd. and Dr. Antuni Wiyarsi, S.Pd.Si., M.Sc., moderator Muhammad Zamhari, M.Sc., and MCs Izza Kamila and Alya Nur Aeni.
The public lecture began at 09.00 WIB with a recitation of verses of the Holy Quran by Atya, a 2018 Chemistry Education student, followed by singing the national anthem Indonesia Raya and the UIN Hymn, and welcoming remarks by Pak Agus Kamaludin and Pak Ja’far. The event continued with a reading of a poem titled Kelak Antara Kita by Teguh Supriyanto, then the presentation of a plaque as thanks for contributions to the accreditation of the Chemistry Education study programme, followed by entertainment by the 2017 and 2018 Chemistry Education students. The core part of the event then began, namely the presentation of material by the speakers, guided by the Moderator.
The first speaker, Dr.Pujianto, S.Pd., M.Pd., presented on the Implementation of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematic) in Educational Research. In Indonesia the term STEM may still be unfamiliar; STEM first emerged in America, and only recently has the term STEM in education come to prominence. So what is STEM? STEM combines various fields of science to create a product, using real examples close to everyday life. STEM itself is very good because it teaches critical thinking and problem solving as skills that can be used throughout life. Strengthening STEM programmes can produce individuals who are able to provide new solutions and make better decisions.
The second speaker, Dr. Antuni Wiyarsi, S.Pd.Si., M.Sc., presented on techniques for developing STEM-Based Research Instruments. There are two kinds of instruments: tests and non-tests. Tests are divided into five, namely Questionnaire, Affective Scale, Rating Scale, Check List, and Interview Protocol. Meanwhile, non-tests are divided into two, namely Selected Response Items and Essay.
The next item was the presentation of souvenirs to the speakers and the moderator, and the last item was the doorprize draw. This part is the most awaited by all Chemistry Education students because they get prizes for free. On this occasion I did not expect much to win a doorprize because every time I attended a public lecture I never got a doorprize. But this public lecture was different: I won a doorprize, a speaker. I felt very happy, hehehe. After the doorprize draw was finished, the event ended well and everyone left the SAINTEK theatrical room.
