Building a Generation Through Education as an Investment for a Brighter Future

INDRIA ARIFIANI

The progress of a nation is marked by the advancement of opportunities for its people to obtain broad and quality education. Quality education enjoyed widely by every member of the nation's society, including early childhood, is the nation's effort to improve its own quality. With the quality gained through education, the nation will be able to live resiliently in a world community marked by a life full of challenges and fierce competition.

The quality of human resources today is the main key to reaching the future, including early childhood development programmes, as a first step in preparing quality that will be able to predict what happens in the future and realise what is needed in the future. They are also the ones who will later be able to reap the benefits and enjoy the various products of life to the fullest.

In the context of quality people with excellence, that excellence needs to be recognised and developed as an added value that is greatly needed in facing a competitive and challenging life. Excellent Indonesians are not only excellent in intellect and skills, but also excellent in commitment, character and behaviour, and have a conscience toward the people, loving and staying very close to all the people.

To bring forth such excellent people, a development policy direction is needed that prioritises education as an investment in the nation's future; education must therefore begin from early childhood, through basic education and secondary education, up to higher education. For this, a clear direction and substance of education are needed, human excellence as an investment in the future, a redesign of education in Indonesia, and education for all the nation's children, including early childhood.

Discussing quality education cannot start in the middle of the educational process; it must begin from early childhood. This is because early childhood education is very fundamental and internationally recognised. Therefore, young children also have a very basic right to receive education as the foundation for the children's subsequent development and growth.

Learning in early childhood education is that which is designed to be integrated into play as their world, so that their potential can develop optimally in accordance with their stage of development and age. So all the activities of young children in developing sensory and perception, gross and fine motor skills, social and emotional skills, cognition and language are carried out through play. Because play reflects the intrinsic motivation that children have.
