Upgrading the Learning Motivation of Teenagers
According to WHO, adolescence falls in the age range of 10-19 years. During this period children experience various changes, both physical and psychological. Children's physical and psychological changes cause several other things to change as well, one of which is the child's emotional condition. According to WHO research, 1 in 5 children under the age of 16 experiences mental-emotional problems.
A common emotional problem among teenagers is poor emotional control. This lack of self-control often makes them feel excessive anger. In addition, children in adolescence do not yet have firm convictions, so they are easily carried away by their environment.
Of course, if the environment where a child socialises is good, the child will be carried in a good direction. But in reality, today there are many environments that lead children into social circles that lead to harmful things. If this keeps happening, the child's motivation to learn will also be disturbed because the child will focus more on the pleasure obtained from that environment.
Therefore, during adolescence, parents must be able to position themselves as friends and companions. If children feel comfortable talking with their parents, parents will better understand the child's social life outside the home, so that parents can control the child's social life well. Parents can also make efforts to increase the child's learning motivation.
Increasing children's learning motivation can be done in various ways according to each child's personality. Ways that can be done include instilling a mindset in children to always think positively about their aspirations. If a child believes they are able to reach their aspirations, the child will have the enthusiasm to learn in order to make them come true.
Parents can also give a reward for the learning achievements the child attains. This reward will make the child feel appreciated for everything they have done. Afterwards, the child will keep trying so that future achievements are even better.
Children also need their parents' free time to share all their problems, one of which is problems at school. A school environment that is not always healthy will affect the child's learning process. If the child expresses this discomfort to their parents and is then given advice on how to improve it, the child will be more confident in facing various conditions in the school environment.
Parental accompaniment in studying at home will also have a positive influence on children's learning motivation. If they feel cared for while studying, children will like it more. Studying at home also becomes more enjoyable.
The child's mental condition must also be taken into account. Children often experience poor mental conditions. This condition will affect the child's learning motivation. Learning motivation will decline if the child feels pressured by something. Therefore, parents must begin to pay attention to their child's mental health so that they can give help as quickly as possible.
Learning motivation must be instilled as early as possible and nurtured every day. Learning motivation greatly influences children's learning outcomes. Good learning outcomes indicate that the goals of learning have been achieved. Therefore, the role of learning motivation is very important for achieving learning success and in the process of reaching one's aspirations.
