Big Profits in the Month of Ramadan, Want Some?

MASITA ZUMNA MAULIDA

The month of Ramadhan is indeed a month eagerly awaited – awaited by Muslims all over the world. Ramadhan is a special month because the holy book, the Al – Quran,   was revealed in the month of Ramadhan, which is called Syahrul Quran. Not only that, all good deeds performed in the month of Ramadhan will be multiplied up to 700 times, except fasting, as in the following hadith:

“All the deeds of the son of Adam will be multiplied to keep the heart in Islam sincere and calm (their reward); one good deed will be rewarded with 10 up to 700 times.” Allah Swt. said: “Except fasting, for it is truly for Me, and I Myself will directly reward it. My servant has given up his desire and his food for My sake.” (Narrated by Muslim)

Just imagine, if we say 1 istighfar in the month of Ramadhan, its reward can be multiplied up to 700 times. That is only istighfar; suppose you give charity by handing out takjil (food for breaking the fast) worth Rp. 100,000. It is the same as investing Rp. 100,000 and immediately making a profit of 700 times as much; let us multiply it, Rp. 100,000 times 700 makes Rp. 70,000,000. Wow, and that is only a few deeds. Let us see what deeds we can do in the month of Ramadhan.

1. Fasting

Of course, fasting. Fasting in the month of Ramadhan is obligatory, as in the word of Allah in QS. Al-Baqarah verse 183.

O you who believe, fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may become God-fearing. (QS. Al-Baqarah:183)

Fasting in the month of Ramadhan erases past sins if it is carried out sincerely out of faith and solely hoping for reward from Allah, as narrated by Abu Hurairah,

“Indeed, a blessed month has come to you. Allah has made it obligatory for you to fast, for the gates of paradise are opened, the gates of hell are closed and the devils are chained, and a night will be found whose value is better than a thousand months. Whoever fails to obtain its goodness, truly he will be deprived of it forever.” (An-Nasai and Al-Baihaqi)

2. Reading the Al - Qur`an

Reading the Al-Qur`an is highly recommended in the month of Ramadhan, because it was in that month that the Al - Qur`an was revealed. As in the word of Allah in QS. Al-Baqarah verse 185.

(The days specified are) the month of Ramadhan, the month in which the Qur'an was revealed (its beginning) as guidance for mankind and clear explanations of that guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong). (QS: al-Baqarah:185)

3. Tarawih Prayer

The Tarawih prayer is prescribed based on the hadith of 'Aisyah radhiyallahu 'anha, who said:

"Indeed, the Messenger of Allah  went out in the middle of the night, then he prayed in the mosque, and some people prayed with him. In the morning, people talked about it. When the Messenger of Allah performed the prayer (on the second night), many people prayed behind him. The next morning, people talked about it again. On the third night, the number of worshippers in the mosque grew larger, and the Messenger of Allah came out and performed his prayer. On the fourth night, the mosque could no longer hold the worshippers, so the Messenger of Allah only came out to perform the Subuh prayer. When he had finished the Subuh prayer, he faced the congregation of Muslims, then recited the shahada and said, 'Indeed, your position was not hidden from me, but I feared that this act of worship would be made obligatory upon you, and then you would not be able to carry it out." (Narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim).

4. Reviving the nights of Lailatul Qadar

Lailatul qadar is a night that is better than a thousand months that have no lailatul qadar, and the strongest opinion is that it occurs in the last ten days of the month of Ramadhan, especially on the odd nights, namely the nights of the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th.

The Night of Glory is better than a thousand months. (QS.al-Qadar :3)

5. I'tikaf

I'tikaf means staying in the mosque to worship Allah in a certain way as regulated by the shari'a. I'tikaf is one of the sunnahs that the Messenger of Allah never abandoned, as told by Aisyah radhiyallahu 'anha:

"Indeed, the Messenger of Allah always performed i'tikaf during the last ten days of the month of Ramadhan until he passed away, and then his wives performed i'tikaf after him." Agreed upon (Muttafaqun 'alaih).

I’tikaf is the best way to pursue the Night of Lailatul Qadar.

There are still many more deeds – deeds that you can do in the month of Ramadhan, for example giving charity, umrah and so on. Quite a few of us set aside so much time for worldly activities. But sometimes we give very little thought to our savings for the hereafter. However, it is never too late; let us together, – little by little, practise the deeds that are lightest for us. Because merely by starting, we already receive a record of good deeds, and who knows, the deed we have just begun may be what saves us in the hereafter.
