How to Overcome Learning Barriers

NAILUL ILMA NAFIA

Education is a conscious effort to prepare learners, through teaching or training activities, for their future roles. Education is important for children, adults and society. Education gives people knowledge about the world around them and helps them change it for the better. It develops a person's outlook on life and helps shape views and visions about the various things in life.

National education has the function of developing abilities and shaping the character and civilization of a dignified nation in order to enlighten the life of the country, and of developing the potential of learners so that they become people who believe in and devote themselves to God Almighty. They are to be people of noble character, healthy, knowledgeable, capable, creative and independent, and to become responsible and democratic citizens.

The learning process is one aspect of an organized school environment. This environment is framed and arranged so that the learning process moves towards the goals that have been set. However, in the learning process, learning activities do not always succeed, and there are often failures or learning difficulties faced by students. Learning difficulties arise because students are unable to connect new knowledge with prior knowledge, which leads to misunderstanding or lack of clarity in the lesson.

Learning difficulty is a condition in which an individual has difficulty carrying out learning activities. Many things can cause an individual to experience difficulty in learning. Learning difficulties are related not only to an individual's level of intelligence but also to the individual's difficulty in mastering learning skills and completing the tasks given.

Learning activities are important and must be carefully considered to ensure that students can understand and absorb the subject matter as fully as possible. However, in reality, obstacles and problems often arise in learning activities, making it difficult for students to achieve optimal learning outcomes. A student's environmental conditions greatly influence their learning activities. If a student's learning environment is not comfortable, it will certainly become a barrier to learning.

Therefore, the learning environment must be made as comfortable as possible so that learning can be optimal. Being in a supportive environment greatly helps students understand and learn the material. However, if all of this has been done well and students still have difficulty in the teaching and learning process, then the problem may lie with the students themselves.

In addition, the factors that can hinder students' learning are not only the conditions and the learning environment but also the students' own internal factors. Internal learning factors are factors that come from within the learners themselves, including their biological, physiological and psychological conditions, from interest, talent and intelligence to learning motivation and practice. Barriers to learning that come from the learners themselves are indeed difficult to overcome, because only the learners themselves are able to change them.

In learning activities themselves, personal motivation is often manifested in the form of resilience or perseverance in learning, sincerity in paying attention to the content of the subject, sincerity and patience in doing homework, and so on. However, this does not happen with students who experience learning difficulties. Such students seem unable to bear studying for long, are less serious in paying attention to the course content, get bored, are less serious in doing assignments, and show a lack of concentration in learning.

The characteristics of students who experience learning difficulties can be revealed through several traits, in the form of habits or behaviour in daily life, speech and language, as well as intellectual ability and school achievement. This means that a student's tendency to experience learning difficulties can be seen from cognitive thinking skills, everyday attitudes at school, and skills or behaviour when taking part in learning, practice and study activities.

Learning motivation can be observed in students' interest and attention towards lessons, their enthusiasm and self-confidence in completing learning tasks, their responsibility in carrying out learning tasks, their expressive reactions to stimuli given by the teacher, and their emotions: joy and satisfaction in carrying out learning tasks. Motivation is very important because people who are not motivated to learn will not be able to carry out learning activities. Every change is always driven by motivation. For example, learning is influenced by an individual's motivation to learn.

Based on the statements above, it can be concluded that motivation is very necessary because people who are not motivated to learn will not be able to carry out learning activities. Every change is always driven by motivation. For example, learning is influenced by an individual's motivation to learn. Motivation is needed by individuals to achieve learning goals, especially academic success.
