Student Graduation Data in Schools by Level: A Main Component? Why?
Every school institution certainly has its own policies and authority,
whether a state or a private school. However, according to Government Regulation
Number 47 of 2008, “(1) The management of the compulsory education programme at the
national level is the responsibility of the Minister. (2) Coordination of the management of the compulsory
basic education programme at the provincial level is the responsibility of the Governor. (3) The management of the
compulsory basic education programme at the regency/city level is the responsibility of the
Regent/Mayor”. This shows that every educational institution has its own
supervising authority. This includes the data collection carried out by schools to obtain
direct data that is accurate, valid, complete, accountable and
up to date as seen by the local Education Office.
Student data collection is not the only main component in educational
institutions. Data collection on students entering and leaving the institution must also
receive attention from the local school. This is because it is one of the main
components in educational institutions that will later determine the excellence of the
local school, especially data collection on final-year students according to the level they
will enter next.
It should be noted that data on final-year students and on the graduation of final-year students
usually end up the same. However, data on final-year students and on those who
continue to the next level are usually not the same, because not all students who continue to the
next level go on to formal education. Some
students continue to non-formal education. This becomes
a reference for the Education Office, received from each school's data collection.
Of course, data collection on final-year students leaving school does not only
list their names and the level at which institution they will enter next.
Nowadays, data on each student's gender is also needed to complete
and make each record concrete. This is ultimately managed by the local Education Office
as proof of archiving for the school that provided it. In this regard, the data that
is the main component in every educational institution contributes to the
local Education Office.
Speaking of data collection, I happen to be a second-semester student
doing an internship at the Education Office of Purwakarta Regency. I am placed in
the division I handle, namely the Programme and Planning Division, which manages all
planning and carries out every programme owned by the Education Office.
Collecting data on student graduation by level is one of the programmes owned
by the Education Office for archiving what schools provide. Likewise,
creating a dashboard is the main point of archiving and management in the
programming section.
Creating a dashboard is the task I am working on at the moment, and it is
the result of data collected from each school and the institutions that
submit it to the Education Office. The dashboard being created consists of
graphs or percentage indices of student graduation data in schools by level. This
is done to make data that was hard to read because there was too much of it
easier to read and more concrete.
