The Declining Quality of Education During the Covid-19 Pandemic

TEGUH IMAN NUGRAHA

During this pandemic, students' knowledge has certainly declined because of the online learning carried out in the pandemic era. During the coronavirus pandemic, teachers and students could not carry out the learning process, or it could be said they could not take part in effective learning to the full, because students currently have too little access to the technology needed for distance or online learning.

As a result of this suboptimal learning in the pandemic era, students certainly do not receive enough knowledge.  If students attended face-to-face classes, teachers could deliver the material well and the material would be covered through to the end of the semester; with this pandemic, teachers have to condense the material as much as possible so that students do not find it difficult to do the assignments given to them online.

It is not only students: teachers too find it hard to grade students during the coronavirus pandemic, because when school is running effectively, teachers can see how active a student is in learning and asking questions in class during lesson hours. But in the present conditions, teachers can only monitor students through photos sent by parents as proof that the student has done the assignments given by the teacher online.

During this pandemic, many students also feel bored with the online learning process and their knowledge continues to decline. This can lead to low student achievement, and they will become used to online schooling and feel lazy about attending school in a classroom. A sense of laziness toward school under normal conditions will also become embedded in their minds.

The things that cause students' declining interest in learning are as follows: some do not own a mobile phone, and some cannot use one. Many students lack interest in learning, so many neglect the online learning process. Then there is the difficulty of finding a network connection (a weakened signal). Finally, a lack of student activeness.

Online learning during this pandemic is indeed not easy, and good cooperation among the various subjects of education is needed. Online learning will not feel burdensome if it is responded to and faced with the right attitude, so that it can become a good learning method. For that reason, let us keep up our spirits in carrying out the online learning process, so that we avoid the coronavirus and continue to follow the government's rules. I hope this pandemic ends soon.
