Summary of PLP Activities at SMA Muhammadiyah & Yogyakarta
The School Field Practice (PLP) at SMA Muhammadiyah 7 Yogyakarta began with the deployment by the Field Supervising Lecturer (DPL) as the official start of the activities. After that, we coordinated with our respective mentor teachers to discuss the activity plan, the division of tasks, and schedule adjustments during the PLP.
In the initial stage, we spent our time observing lessons in class X with the Chemistry subject teacher. Through this activity, my friends and I gained a direct understanding of teaching strategies, the characteristics of students, and the dynamics of the teaching and learning process in the classroom. We were also involved in the briefing on preparing for the Mid-Semester Assessment (ATS) and helped supervise its implementation in several classes. During the ATS period, we regularly attended the briefing and tadarus with the teachers every morning, then helped mark the exam results and enter student grades under the supervision of the mentor teachers.
Besides academic activities, we were actively involved in various other school activities. We took turns on Teaching and Learning Activity (KBM) duty with teachers about five times during the PLP. We also took part in the 5S duty (Smile, Greet, Say hello, Be polite, and Be courteous) in front of the school in the morning, in rotation with other PLP students. In the religious field, we helped teachers organise students to perform Friday prayers and the congregational dhuhr and asr prayers held every day. For female students who could not pray, we ran keputrian activities twice during the PLP. In addition, we accompanied Al-Qur’an tadarus with students twice a week, which is part of the religious habits at the school.
We also participated in various school events and commemorations of major days, such as the Pancasila Birth Day ceremony, Batik Day by wearing batik clothing, Reresik Day by directing students to clean their classrooms, and Language Month, which featured a curriculum seminar, the 7KAIH Movement, and competitions among students. We also took part in the commemoration of Youth Pledge Day with teachers and students.
In the academic field, I had the opportunity to do teaching practice four times in class X E3, under the guidance of the mentor teacher. We also occasionally substituted for the mentor teacher to teach in classes XI and XII when he or she could not attend. We also assisted with practicums in class XII, helping the mentor teacher guide students so that activities ran in an orderly and effective manner.
Throughout the PLP period, the Field Supervising Lecturer (DPL) visited the school to discuss, evaluate, and share experiences about the obstacles and progress we experienced during the activities. The closing of the whole 45-day PLP series was marked by the withdrawal by the DPL, which signified the end of the process at SMA Muhammadiyah 7 Yogyakarta. Overall, this PLP gave me valuable experience in understanding the school environment, improving my professional abilities as a prospective teacher, and nurturing responsibility, discipline, and cooperation in the world of education.
