Millennial Kartini Fights Radical Ideologies

NURUL UMAH

Kartini's struggle has in fact had a great influence up to the present. Today women in Indonesia have gained educational rights equal to men. The women's emancipation she pioneered has also affected women's lives today. Women are now allowed to become leaders. However, in this digital era the spirit of Kartini's emancipation is fading. The reason is that most millennial women do not yet understand how to apply emancipation through real action. They also assume that to be a Kartini one must fight for the rights of women of that time. So they are confused about how to continue the spirit of Kartini's emancipation today.
The true meaning of emancipation is how women can progress and develop over time without losing their identity. Today the spirit of emancipation can be realised by becoming a millennial version of Kartini. A millennial Kartini must be able to bring change in a positive direction for society. So what can we do as millennial Kartinis to bring change in society? Of course, we must become the millennial Kartinis that society needs. What society needs most today is Kartinis who are able to counter radical ideologies.
The prevalence of radicalism in society requires us to be always vigilant. The National Counter Terrorism Agency (BNPT) states that the radicalism potential index for 2020 reached 14%. Although this figure fell compared with 2019, we must not let our guard down. The reason is that people with little knowledge easily fall into radical ideologies, because without our realising it, seeds of radicalism are growing around us. As millennial Kartinis we must be able to educate the public about the dangers of radicalism. This is because most people do not yet really know what radicalism is.
In addition, we can run online anti-radicalism campaigns in an effort to eradicate radical ideologies. Online campaigns are the most effective solution because we now live in a digital era. Almost everyone has social media. This makes things easier for us because anti-radical content will spread widely in society. Even people from all walks of life, children and adults alike, can see this anti-radicalism campaign. In this way, people's minds will be opened to the dangers of radical ideologies. The campaign must also include the actions that people should take to avoid radical ideologies.
For remote areas not yet reached by technology, we can use print media such as newspapers and brochures. As millennial Kartinis we must be able to use every medium to lead society towards change. We can be more diligent in writing in print media about radicalism, so that it can be read by the public, especially those outside Java. In this way, people in both urban and rural areas can together counter the radical ideologies around them. This is because radicalism is dangerous and threatens the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). If left unchecked, it can cause the nation to disintegrate from within, so it must be eradicated from an early stage.
Let us commemorate this Kartini Day by continuing the spirit of her struggle. One way is by becoming a millennial Kartini who is useful to society, a pioneer of change in society, to bring Indonesia forward together, and to defend the integrity of NKRI from radical ideologies. We are Kartini's successor generation, so we ought to continue her struggle. We fight according to our respective professions by working hard and living independently without depending on anyone. As students we must study diligently and seek knowledge wherever we are. We use that knowledge to educate the public so that they are not easily influenced by radical ideologies that run contrary to Pancasila.
