The Influence of Music on Learning Activities
In this world there are many music genres that can be listened to, for example pop, classical music, jazz, rock and many more. Within these genres there is a lot of music that can improve concentration in studying. To improve concentration in studying, one needs enthusiasm for learning and also a good mood. Everyone certainly has a different way of raising their enthusiasm for studying, and one way used is listening to music.
Studying while listening to music can make our brain more relaxed and more focused. Music can raise enthusiasm for studying because there is a lot of music with an upbeat character, making listeners feel that energy too. Upbeat music can lift the mood and make one more energetic, and if the music being listened to is music one likes, it adds even more enthusiasm. There is also calm music that can improve focus in studying through its tranquillity. However, there are also those who prefer to study without listening to music because they like a calm and quiet atmosphere to improve their concentration.
During this pandemic, learning is done online at home. Learning at school is lively because there are many students, but at home it is quiet because there is only family. To overcome that loneliness, one can listen to music while doing assignments. Studying also triggers stress for some people, so listening to music is one way for the stress experienced while studying to ease, so that one can be more focused and understand better, because music has a calming effect and can reduce existing anxiety. Some people consider studying boring and sleep-inducing because of the quiet room and because the activity is only reading books. Therefore, we can listen to music while reading books or doing assignments so that the boredom and sleepiness disappear, and the assignment or study activity can be finished faster because the sleepiness is gone.
Furthermore, music can also help in learning activities. For example, learning English is easier when listening to music in English. Such music can add to knowledge by looking at the vocabulary in the lyrics and by learning how English is properly spoken through the music being listened to. Not only English, music in other languages can likewise be used in learning activities to add vocabulary and learn various languages. Music lyrics contain various motivational words that can be used to encourage oneself to study better in the future. The benefit of reading books while listening to music can also be to train the brain because it does two activities at once.
However, in learning we must also choose which music suits and fits what we are studying and our mood, so that we do not choose wrongly and break our concentration. For example, if you want to memorise study material before an exam, it is more suitable to listen to music without lyrics, or instrumental, so that you stay focused on memorising and do not sing along with the lyrics because you are only listening to the sound. To get rid of loneliness, you can listen to upbeat music so that the atmosphere in the room becomes lively. To get rid of stress from studying, you can listen to upbeat music or slow-tempo music that calms the mind if you want to keep concentrating calmly. Sleepiness while studying can be removed by listening to upbeat music and occasionally singing along so that the mind feels fresh again.
Finding music to listen to while studying is easy; you can easily search on YouTube or other music applications because there are many kinds of music there that have been made into study playlists.
