Education is a process of teaching, learning, and training carried out to develop a person's potential. Through education, a person is taught not only to understand the world around them, but also to value themselves, respect others, and contribute positively to society. The purpose of education is to prepare a person to be accustomed to the changing times, to think critically, and also to have the skills to live independently and responsibly. Education also aims to shape a person's character and moral conduct, which will lead people towards a harmonious and civilised society.
The world of education is currently not doing well. Schools in the past usually used blackboards, chalk, and rows of benches as learning media, while schools today have shifted to technology-based media and digital interaction in carrying out the learning process. This change is not merely FOMO, but a response to times that are changing ever faster.
One path to the future is education. With education, one can reach a bright future. The role of schools is very important in guiding students towards the future. Education is very important in shaping students' character and skills. In today's digital era, various technological innovations are applied in the learning process. Teachers and students are now connected through online learning media, online classes, and educational support applications that continue to develop rapidly. Technology makes the learning process more flexible and easily accessible. Students can learn anywhere and access materials from anywhere. However, behind all the sophistication of technology, there is concern that the educational process is losing the emotional closeness between teacher and student. Online classes often make interaction stiff and less personal. Many students feel they understand the material less, are less motivated, or even lose direction because of the lack of emotional support from the learning environment. This shows that technology alone is not enough for the educational process. Today's schools must prioritise a balance between technological sophistication, sensitivity of heart, and emotional connection between teachers and students.
Educating with heart means prioritising empathy, attention, and understanding of students' emotional needs. Teachers not only provide knowledge, but also become figures who guide, listen, and inspire. In many cases, students remember teachers who care and motivate more than teachers who only teach theory. An emotional touch is one of the important factors in creating a learning process that is meaningful and has a long-term impact.
Technology in education should be an aid to education, not the final goal. One example is the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help the learning process so that it can be beneficial. However, without the human touch of teachers, learning can feel stiff. Teachers still hold an important role as moral guides, character builders, and sources of inspiration. In this context, technology should strengthen the relationship between teachers and students, not replace the teacher's role for students.
A real example of education that combines heart and technology can be seen in schools that apply blended learning with a holistic approach. Here, online learning is used efficiently, yet still balanced with face-to-face activities that focus on discussion, teamwork, and character development. Teachers use technology to present material creatively, but still facilitate space for dialogue and emotional support.
In addition, the SEL (Social Emotional Learning) approach has begun to be widely applied to ensure that students are not only academically intelligent, but also able to manage emotions, build social relationships, and make responsible decisions. This is very relevant in the modern era, in which emotional intelligence is increasingly recognised as a key to success in various aspects of life.
Today schools are also required to be inclusive and equitable. Technology opens the way to a fairer education, but the challenge of the digital divide still haunts the world of education. In some regions, limited internet access and devices remain a very large obstacle. Therefore, educating with heart also means understanding students' social context, fighting for equal access, and adapting to the various limitations that exist in every region of Indonesia. It is this kind of social empathy that makes a school not only a place of learning, but also a space of advocacy and justice.
The role of parents is also no less important. In today's digital era, collaboration between school and family is becoming ever more important. Education that is left only to schools is not enough to face the challenges of the times. Parents must be involved in the learning process, understand their child's development, and together with teachers build a healthy educational ecosystem.
Towards a brilliant future, schools must continue to innovate. However, the innovation meant is not merely new technology, but new ways of building relationships, understanding students' needs, and creating beneficial learning experiences. The ideal school is not the one with the most sophisticated technology, but the one with the deepest sense of humanity.
Educating with heart and technology is not a choice, but a combination that complements each other to support the learning process. Technology speeds up the process, opens access, and multiplies experiences. Meanwhile, the heart shapes character, gives meaning, and preserves the human values that exist. If the two are combined well, today's schools will produce not only an intelligent generation, but also a generation that is wise, caring, and ready to face global challenges with a strong and responsible heart.
